The Azahar Coast is situated between The South of Valencia and Barcelona and North Tarragon. It is in la Comarca del Baix Maestrat(Castellon), a few kilometres from the coastal cities of Vinaroz, Benicarlo, Peniscola, San Mateo or Morella. These areas are prominent tourist centres for two reasons. Firstly, they host a varied range of Mediterranean beaches which include wide golden sandy beaches and small hidden, stoney enclaves. Secondly the areas are of great historical interest such as the medieval murals of Morella.<br />
You can enjoy the natural surroundings such as the Ebro Delta, the Benifassa mountains or the Ulldecona reservoir amongst many others. It is also ideal for sports and outdoor activities such as hiking, rambling, horse riding and cycling. The gastronomy of the region is also highly regarded.. Extra virgin olive oil is produced in the region, a tradition which dates back to the middle ages. There are typical local dishes such as Maestrat rabbit and a wide variety of seafood, pasta and rice dishes and ‘suquet de peix’(fish soup). Traditional food can be sampled in any restaurant or terrace around the city. You can try Morrellian beef ,rabbit with snails or patridge in escabeche.
