ROQUETAS DE MAR

Roquetas de Mar is situated 25 km west of Almera and 160 km east of Malaga. It is one of the few resorts in Europe where the rainfall is scarce. The sun shines for more than 320 days a year!

On this aerial view, you can see that part of Roquetas Serena Beach which has been developed and below that (located on the lower center part of the photograph) is the area that will soon be developed with new apartments and a large shopping center. You can also see the white plastic covers which are still used for agriculture but they will disappear sometime in the future leaving space for construction and Roquetas will then become a whole new city. Real Estate prices will increase as developments continue to be built. Naturally the Prime Property is always near or on the beach, but all properties in this fast growing area are "Prime" for investment.

Information on the growth of Roquetas De Mar
Living in Roquetas de Mar is like witnessing a movie being made right before your eyes. Or, if you are a returning visitor to enjoy the warm climate of this one time fishing village, you now see beautiful hotels, rising apartment structures, and shopping centers providing for all your needs.
The population has risen the past 5 years to almost 70, 000. At Roquetas' current rate of growth it is understandable that city officials are expecting another 70, 000 residents within the next 5 years. Roquetas de Mar has become an important Mediterranean Business and Financial Centre, attracting businesses from every sector and nationality. With close proximity to Almeria International Airport. Roquetas de Mar is one of the fastest growing cities in the Province of Almeria

The two major commercial activities remain Agriculture and Tourism, however with increasing infrastructure and technology, more businesses are attracted to this active Mediterranean City's emerging markets. Rapid growth is being noted in the fields of construction, real estate, retail, financial services, service sector, information technology and multimedia.
The tourism growth further establishes the importance of this exciting Mediterranean city. Tourism is growing at an phenomenal rate and Roquetas de Mar is set to host part of the 2005 Mediterranean Games.
Roquetas de Mar is an ancient city, once populated by fishermen and salt miners. It was founded by the Phoenicians and during the Roman domination was known as Turania which currently is called Torrequebrada de los Bajos. Numerous archeological remains have been located in this area. The Roman town was moved to its current location after a flood destroyed the old site. The acquisition of salt as well as fishing constituted the city's economic base until recently. Irrigation and greenhouses converted the surrounding fields into magnificent, fertile gardens.
In the second half of the 20th century, tourism was introduced to this beautiful zone and visitors now come to the area year-round.
Serena Beach (Playa Serena) is a wide urban beach with all the services and possible equipments. Ideal for the practice of aquatic sports, the chiringuitos and any other recreational activity in the free time. It has handicapped persons' access, a beautiful promenade, etc. You can visit the Mario Park, a park for the whole family, when you visit this beach. The beaches are fully equipped with showers, local police, lifeguards, parking, beach umbrellas and hammocks, and a park for kids. Also available for activity is diving, sailing and windsurfing.

Completed and future Projects:
